Senior / Lead Applied Data Scientist

100% Remote (U.S. Based Only, Select States - See Below)

About the role

We’re looking for a product-minded, AI-native Data Scientist who operates like a mini-founder—someone who doesn’t wait for problems to be handed to them, but instead identifies opportunities, builds solutions, and drives measurable business impact end-to-end.

You’ll own critical areas like search, recommendations, and personalization, directly influencing core marketplace metrics like Booking Conversion Rate and booking volume. You’ll partner with Product and Engineering, but you won’t depend on them to define your roadmap—you’ll create it, validate it, and ship it.

You’ll spend most of your time:

• Identifying high-impact opportunities
• Rapidly prototyping and experimenting (often using AI tools)
• Deploying ideas into production
• Measuring and iterating based on real business outcomes

What you’ll do

End-to-end ownership of Search, Recommendations, and Personalization

• Improve ranking, relevance, and discovery across the marketplace
• Drive measurable lift in Booking CVR, rebooking, and engagement

Your own roadmap

• Identify opportunities independently (no waiting for PM direction)
• Prioritize based on business impact, not technical novelty
• Push ideas into live experimentation quickly

Rapid experimentation & iteration

• Design and analyze A/B tests and other experiments
• Move quickly from idea → prototype → production test → insight

Applied machine learning systems

• Develop and iterate on models (ranking, recommendation, personalization, etc.)
• Work across the stack—from data exploration to model design to experimentation

AI-powered velocity

• Leverage LLMs, agents, and AI tooling to dramatically accelerate your workflow
• Prototype faster, analyze faster, and ship faster than traditional approaches
• Explore opportunities to apply AI both internally and in user-facing features

Cross-functional influence

• Partner with Product, Engineering, and Analytics to bring ideas to life
• Communicate complex ideas clearly to non-technical stakeholders
• Act as a thought partner on product strategy—not just execution

Data Science leadership (IC)

• Set the bar for how Data Science operates at StyleSeat
• Bring product thinking, speed, and autonomy into the team
• Help shape future hiring and direction of the function

• You’ve shipped multiple experiments that drive measurable improvements in Booking CVR and booking volume
• You’ve established a clear, high-impact roadmap for search and personalization
• You’re consistently identifying and executing on opportunities without needing direction
• You’ve meaningfully increased the velocity of experimentation through AI-enabled workflows
• You’ve become a trusted partner to Product & Engineering, influencing roadmap and strategy

Who you are

Successful candidates can come from a variety of backgrounds, yet here are some of the critical experiences we’re looking for:

Core Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Data Science, Applied ML, or related roles in production environments
• Strong foundation in machine learning, experimentation, and statistical thinking
• Proven track record of driving business impact, not just building models
• Highly proficient in SQL and Python
• Experience working cross-functionally with Product and Engineering teams

Salary Range

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The career levels we are targeting for this role have a base pay between $160,000 and $195,000 . This role is eligible for equity grants. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. Base pay ranges are subject to change and may be modified in the future.
